Carob, or Ceratonia siliqua, is also known as Locust Bean, St. John's Bread, and Carob Tree.

The carob is a tree in the same plant family as beans and peas. It is the pod that is eaten.

Fresh Raw Carob, in my opinion, has a rather unexpected smell (a bit like a nutty cheese), but it tastes sweet.
