Orris Root, or Iris germanica/pallida, is also known as Iris Florentina , Purple Flag, Bearded Iris, Fleur-de-lis, Sweet Iris, Dalmatian Iris, and Garden Iris.

The iris is a group of plants known for both beauty and adaptability. Their multi-hued blooms seem to thrive everywhere--from the temperate climes of Oregon to the marshes of Louisiana to even the deserts of the Southwest.

The rhizomes, which look like ginger roots, are dug up in August, peeled of their bark, and then dried until they have a chalky appearance.
